Rinse and Repeat
I hold them tighter now
see their beauty how
they glow inside
time passes so fast
another school shooting
punched me in the gut
woke me from a rut
from material matters
something about a fiscal cliff
or slope
or curve
economic gloom
something about a war
in a distant land
troops deployed
without a plan
something about money
to pay for bills
to find security
from insecurity
I’m tearing up
with my wife
with my country
with the world
about the shooting
of little boys and girls
the same age as mine
as the horror uncurls
as reporters feast
rinse and repeat
no answers, only mystery
rinse and repeat
lacking answers
not knowing why
we hug and we cry
about a world gone mad
