I see you for you.
No matter what you do.
No matter how dirty you are.
No matter what has put you here.
The death you have seen.
The crimes you have done.
For I could have been you.
I see you as me.
Arms deep in trash.
Looking for plastic.
Looking for glass.
Looking for a life to recycle.
This landfill is not you.
You are not discarded.
You are not a scavenger.
You are making a life the right way.
With blood, sweat and tears
You get up each day.
And sort through our human debris.
Picking out what we all need.
Today, do not look at the vultures.
For your humanity is intact
It is seen in your giving back.
It is seen in your support for others.
At the landfill you grow more human
Picking through the unassuming.
You are not thrown away.
You are found and have a place.
Always hold your head high without disgrace.
Smell is only skin deep.
Strength of spirit is priceless.
Nothing good in life ever comes cheap.
