Let Us Pray
A binary system does not exist.
We are more complex.
We are interconnected.
But another spree killing might
make us reevaluate the demons we fight
when we pray.
When we vote.
When we legislate.
For evil takes on infinite forms.
It is the bullets sprayed into the unsuspecting mass.
It is the thoughts that formed to pull the trigger.
It is the hellfire missile fired from a drone.
Blowing up a school zone.
It is military spending.
Killing schools from feeding
young minds left bleeding
in the heart of a country.
It is the poison milked into our soil
for our unquenched thirst for oil.
That pours into the water.
Grows the food we eat.
Grows the cancer we try to defeat.
Evil is an exploding star.
Gamma rays irradiating galaxies.
For a hiccup in history.
Cells, organisms, biology, planets, stars nuked.
Nothing having the energy to rebuke.
To pull back what has been unleashed.
As religion cradles our souls.
Reminds us of the light and the darkness
we all face, despite all preparation.
All the bunkers.
All the weapon caches.
All the food storage.
Nothing will keep us from it.
We are the light.
We are the love of a child born in a manger.
We are the guns and bombs used in anger.
