Blink
I blink
inside my house today
with photos of twenty-five year old me
staring back at me
body and face thin
no extra chin
strong and lean
trained killing machine
shooting down range
disassembling my M16
I blink
ten years have gone
body changed
brain rearranged
to stop cancer
to live longer
is always the answer
when raising family
watch them grow
another day comes instantly
I blink
then hold my eyes shut
dreaming of glowing images
cast on cave walls
animals hunted
drawn and painted
thousands of years ago
did our genes draw
did our DNA solve
the mysteries of eternity
As we blink
