not to beat a dead horse

26 March 2008 5 Comments

but maybe that horse isn’t dead? Folks I have a meeting with the new MOCA Jax communications director in a couple of weeks. I’d like to present her with a list of concepts / ideas that outline how JaxCAL could work with MOCA Jax. I believe we have very similar interests and can see us benefiting from collaboration. I see MOCA benefiting by seeing the prospects of an engaged local art community in museum events, that could help increase museum membership. I see JaxCAL benefiting by using the museum facilities for concepts and ideas presented on this site in some of it’s very first posts.

So if anyone is interested in having MOCA hear some of the ideas we spoke of earlier on here, please do a recap of those concepts so I can pass them on. Ideas that would be most beneficial I believe at this time would be ones that do not cost money to initiate. Example : The artist laptop presentation concept that was discussed, where an artist shows a Powerpoint of their work on screen, and there is a round table discussion with the community about their work. Examples like this I believe would be well received.

I have to run now though, my wife is going into hard labor. Wish us luck. Be back online in a few days.

Cheers…….

p.s. Please go to the show at PIE Studio Friday night. Take photos for JaxCAL if you can. I hope I can make it.

Life is a miracle….. not back form the hospital yet but they have the internet on the televisions at Baptist South. amazing really. Here’s a summary:

I am tired. tuckered out. sleepy. Willow King was born through a vaginal delivery at 11:58pm on the 26th. She is 6 pounds 12 ounces. 10 toes. 10 fingers. Thanks to all for the good energy, good luck, and prayers. Dana is fine. Medication this time, but wow did it do the trick.

As far as this post goes. I have two weeks before I meet with her. I myself can think of a laundry list of ways that JaxCAL could work with MOCA. I’m going to hold off on my input before I hear from you all. Please read through the first couple of months of JaxCAL to get an idea of what was discussed if you’d like to get up to speed. The archives are here:
    http://www.jaxcal.org/about/k2archives

And really if I don’t get any input I’ll cancel the meeting. No worries. Don’t want to put the cart before the dead horse. If you all are not interested in working and collaborating with the only contemporary art museum in town then we’ll keep on doing what we’re doing, or not doing.

    cheers.

I think that any way we could work together would be great. I’m a little mentally exhausted right now, so I can’t be an idea powerhouse right now. The first (and only, as of now) thing I thought of was what you already mentioned.
Maybe we should work on ways to create more exhibitions for local artists?

    Congrats on baby Willow!

i’m guessing from the response to this post that I should just cancel the meeting. really thought there would be more interest than this. oh well. such is life.

I don’t think you should cancel the meeting. It doesn’t seem like a cooperative move. I see that not many people have commented, but you can’t take that to mean they don’t want to work with the museum.

Or maybe I’m just talking crap. Who knows?
