Yeah, the UM professors have a valid point. What would that money do to help their program?
I like the idea of it being a 2 year grant but it seems odd that at the end you don’t get a degree. I wonder if the artists who graduate could use it to teach? Having the MFA to be able to teach has always been the reason I’ve wanted to receive one.
Interesting concept though for sure. It’s exciting to think Miami is on the verge of becoming a real art city. We should all go down for a weekend visit one day. Maybe hit up a First Friday or something.
i agree. I wonder if, instead of an alternate MFA program, they should establish a Skowhegan-like residency program. It would have the same effect of retaining/attracting talent (perhaps even more so since it would be open to post MFA students)
