The Globatron President’s Challenge

Globatron has begun the President’s Fitness Challenge.  Remember that award you could get when you were in school as a kid?  Well they have a program set up for adults now too, and Globatron needs it because his alter-ego is a sedentary, computer clicking monkey. Globatron is now on his second day of the program.  Basically all you need to do is complete and log your exercise by doing at least 30 minutes of it for five days a week for six weeks, and you’ll get the award.  Nothing like a little incentive to get you off the couch.  If Globatron can get a six pack like President Obama, he’d be a proud figment of my imagination. He will be rotating between running and biking.  Join the Globatron Presidential Challenge and help reduce the obesity rate in America.

    good luck globatron…

Dang! I would have at least thought Akbar would have joined old Globatron. I guess you aren’t nearly as sedentary as I am though chopping wood all winter as you do. Globatron definitely needs some him some cardio.

Will anyone take the Globatron President’s Challenge?

30 minutes a day is a presidential challenge?

Pathetic. At this level of sacrifice, JFK would’ve said:
“We’re going to the moon by century’s end, on a horse.”

  • globatron (author) said:

Keefy you’re assuming that we made it to the moon. See this post and read the entire thread as it seems many would not believe that ever happened.

So maybe JKK should have said we’re going to the moon by century’s end. I believe that would have most likely been more truthful.

You have to remember that 1 out of every 4 Americans are now considered obese.

30 minutes of cardio five times a week is a good place to start I would think.

I enjoyed my time at the track last night after work. I sprinted the straight aways and walked the curves. Tonight I bike.

I’m excited to get my Adult Presidential Fitness award and blogging about the process. It’s my third day and I don’t feel too bad. Yesterday my legs were nearly arthritic they were so sore.

it’s ridiculous to criticize what amounts to a costless effort to encourage people to healthier living.

If just the three of us can achieve this small accomplishment it will make a difference.

    Thanks for the shout out.

Today I will be running sprints at the track around the corner from my house. I'll be running the straight aways and walking the curves. I heard new research on NPR this morning while driving to work, that exercise that uses short bursts of energy followed by walking or cooling down such as circuit training is better than burning fat than long steady aerobic activity like a steady 30 minute jog. It's also better at building bone density too which is part of overall health.

Globatron is on week two of the fitness challenge. So far it has been enough incentive to get my little award each day by logging into the program and tracking my progress. Globatron has also started a clean eating diet of which he is on day two. He plans on developing a topless workout video by the end of the challenge to showcase the six pack in the refrigerator. He might remain clothed. That is sort of up in the air depending on the progress of the diet and exercise plan. How has your progress been?

  • Byron King said:

I was not able to do five workouts this week. I have failed the President's Challenge or either I must start over. I feel like I ran five miles as Dana and I took the kids to the park and the library today. Should I log that as a workout? I was going to but feel it would be cheating. I have been inspired by this challenge though and will continue to log my workout time but I won't be getting the award in the six weeks it takes as I will have to start over. I must come clean on this.

  • Byron King said:

Okay. I've rethought this project and I did just want to come clean but I think if I do an hour today of exercise it should replace the half hour I missed yesterday. Just want to be up front on this as it has been a motivator for me.

  • globatron (author) said:

The Dream Lives On!!! I'm still at it. Ran two miles today at a nice clip. The workouts are becoming enjoyable and are giving me more energy after the end of the day.

NYC Bone is killing it on the Globatron Group with 2409 points and two very active weeks. Congrats T-Bone.

yesterday the duck pond, today the Presidential Award! You da MAN!

  • Byron King said:

This is great news Teddy. With your near professional athelete level of fitness in the group it will be a real inspiration. I'm excited to see the time and type of workouts you begin to log. That will definitely help inspire me to take it to another leve. I created a new type of workout today while taking Claire to the park. Basically go to any park for kids, and lay out a path for an obstacle course. Do three or four cyles through the course and you've got yourself a workout.

I've started combining kid park time into workout time in order to optimize the time and get the mot out of it. I'm thinking of turning them into workout videos of sorts. Globatron welcomes you aboard Teddy. Cheers….

Had my first run with my new shoes, http://www.vibramfivefingers.com. I felt so amazing refreshed after the run and have no heel pain today at all. Amazing that running barefoot was the cure for my ongoing foot pain from running. Who would have thought.
