THC kills brain tumor cells

10 CommentsUsing the same tests used to judge new chemotherapies, the SETH team discovered that this herbal compound kills human brain tumor cells at a concentration that is nontoxic to normal brain cells. A computerized microscope captured images of the cells every 5 minutes to compile the time-lapse videos. After 20 hours of treatment, 9-THC kills all cancer cells but leaves normal brain cells alive. Cell death is evidenced by cells shrinking to inanimate white spheres.
This is a repeat of studies done in 1974 by researchers at the Medical College of Virginia, who had been funded by the National Institute of Health to find evidence that marijuana damages the immune system, found instead that THC slowed the growth of three kinds of cancer in mice — lung and breast cancer, and a virus-induced leukemia.
February, 2000 Researchers in Madrid injected the brains of 45 rats with cancer cells, producing tumors whose presence they confirmed through magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). On the 12th day they injected 15 of the rats with THC and 15 with Win-55,212-2 a synthetic compound similar to THC. “All the rats left untreated uniformly died 12-18 days after glioma (brain cancer) cell inoculation … Cannabinoid (THC)-treated rats survived significantly longer than control rats. THC administration was ineffective in three rats, which died by days 16-18. Nine of the THC-treated rats surpassed the time of death of untreated rats, and survived up to 19-35 days. Moreover, the tumor was completely eradicated in three of the treated rats.” The rats treated with Win-55,212-2 showed similar results.

Strangely enough I don’t find that funny. If I could take a pill I would if that would mean me living.
I think that’s the problem is that people think it’s just for pain relief or for slackers who want to smoke pot. But if there is real scientific studies that have been suppressed showing that THC actually kills brain tumors it’s criminal.
Just think how many have died since the first study was done in 1974.
At some point you have to wonder what to the true motivation for prohibition is.
It doesnt seem like it serves any societal purpose other than another thing the police can hassle you for.
Can someone explain why the government has no problem not only legalizing but subsidizing abortion, but pot is illegal? I don’t smoke it, never have, have no intentions of ever doing it, nor do I ever plan on having an abortion, but…….It does make you wonder. More people are killed by drunk drivers, but alcohol is legal. Babies are killed by abortions, but they’re legal. Pot in the privacy of your own home…illegal. Of course someone trying to explain the rationalizations our government is useless. Apparently private pot smokes don’t have the right lobbyists.
pot is a cure all, it’s not a gateway drug, the 10 billion commercials for drugs that no one knows much about for lack of studies are more harmful… there are millions of smokers in the u.s.a… empty the jails and prisons

I’ll find out if this holds water or not. It’s hard to believe either side of the argument these days on any of this.
I’m pretty much with Byron here. It is completely criminal that any studies showing that a drug can in any way help limit the effects of any sickness would be suppressed. Especially if such a suppression were done based on political considerations and not upon scientific ones.
Just a hint: if the science shows your politics are wrong, it’s probably time to change your politics.
My neurooncologist today reported that he wished the THC studies worked on humans but there was no proof that it did. It did work on mice though. I still wonder.
Looks like chemo is on my to do list in the next few weeks. A low grade oral chemo though. Doesn’t sound too bad from the sound of it.
I just happened to stumble upon this website while I was looking for information about tumors. My mother has glioblastoma brain tumor and yesterday the doctors told us she has 4 to 6 weeks left to live. I am correctly hearing that THC could possibly save her life?????Hell, I’ll go find some and cook it in brownies! Whatever I have to do…..I’d cut off my arms to save her.
Susan I hear ya. But do some research on it first of course. Not sure what you’d have to lose going that route though. Sweat lodges I hear have worked miracles too.
Big medicine doesn’t give you too many options with Glioblastomas.
