From crime beat reporter for the BALTIMORE SUN to award-winning screenwriter of HBO’s critically-acclaimed The Wire, David Simon talks with Bill Moyers about inner-city crime and politics, storytelling and the future of journalism today.
Globatron has been profoundly touched by The Wire. As such our next project will be dedicated to David Simon.
The Wire having not received one award, yet it is often labeled the best television in the history of all television by critics. It is proof that often times unpopular acts or works of art have real power. Works of art like these do not attempt to monkey with the numbers or statistics to show a better outcome in order to jockey for political position. These are works that are seeking and searching for something pure and real and true … and above all human.
And as Globatron has recently found in order to seek truth sometimes one might lose a few friends along the way.
Globatron salutes David Simon. May his next attempts be greater than The Wire. May he become the next great filmmaker. May he encourage a generation of writers and artists willing to toe the line in order to seek out a better world for all mankind. Even the corner kids.
This is a man who confronts reality as it is, and tries to do what is right. Way to go. I can say that if I know anything I know that The Wire is a great work of art. If we are looking for laws, there is a great place to start.
