If these walls could talk

Picture 8 of 8

If these walls could talk
They would tell you about the father who lived and died here.
They would tell you about the mother who lived and healed here.
They would tell you about the young man who took shelter here.
They would tell you about a young man who left here to serve his nation.
They would tell you about the brother who learned of property and obligation.

If these walls could talk
They would tell you about a young man who met his wife here.
They would tell you about a young woman’s pregnancy and her giving birth near.
They would tell you about a newborn who learned to walk here.
They would tell you about a toddler who learned to speak clear.
They would tell you about a young father who had surgery and recovered here.

If these walls could talk
They would tell you about a family that experienced major life changes here.
They would tell you that another family was here before ours was reared.
They would tell you we live, love and grow old everywhere.

And as I begin another stage in life and prepare to move from these walls
I wish these walls could talk because
I want to hear my father’s voice.
I want to see my mother’s choice.
I want to see my child’s first steps.
I want to touch these memories these walls have kept.

Soon our walls will talk.
